Mónica Lozano, the Associate Publisher of La Opinión, was today named to the Advisory Board for the 1999 FIFA Women's World Cup.

La Opinión, based in Los Angeles, is the country's leading Spanish-language daily newspaper and one of the nation's top sources for information on the sport of soccer.

Lozano directs the day-to-day management of the company and personally oversees five departments -- Editorial, Operations, Circulation, Marketing, and Advertising. Prior to becoming Associate Publisher in 1995, she held the position of Editor for four years (1991-95) and Managing Editor for six (1985-91). She is also the Vice President of Lozano Communications, Inc., the parent company of La Opinión.

"We are thrilled to welcome Mónica to the Advisory Board of the 1999 FIFA Women's World Cup," said Marla Messing, President of the Organizing Committee. "Her knowledge and expertise will be very valuable to the Women's World Cup as we reach out to the Hispanic community to broaden the appeal of the women's game to some of the sport's most knowledgeable fans."

In addition to her duties with La Opinión, Lozano is very involved in the community. She is a member of the University of Southern California Board of Trustees, the National Council of La Raza's Board of Directors, and on the Board of the YMCA of Greater Los Angeles. She serves on the Advisory Committees for the National Association of Women's Business Owner's and the New York Stock Exchange's Individual Investors. Her efforts were recognized by the Latin Business Association, which named her the "Advocate of the Year" in 1997. She also has won media advocacy awards from the Los Angeles Region Small Business Administration and the U.S. Small Business Administration.

"It is truly an honor to join such a prestigious group and assist in helping make the Women's World Cup a success," said Lozano. "La Opinión has been committed to providing the best soccer coverage to our readers for many years. Joining the Women's World Cup Advisory Board gives me the opportunity to partner La Opinión's resources with women's athletics and the most popular sport in the world."
