Game report

The game opened in an attacking frenzy by the home team as if they were trying to emphasize the pitiably undersized field that favors the more physical teams. Short in both length and width the field is no place for the teams that use space. Within a few minutes of frantic play by both teams an accurate ball from Katia to the compleat finisher Murray and it was in the net. Within two minutes the Power were even when Espeseth put one one of her trademark long passes through for Janss to run on and volley past the keeper. A few minutes later Milbrett failed to convert on a pass that left her with just the keeper to beat but she shanked her kick. Late in the game Espeseth had to leave the field after having her forehead split open and the Power continued with ten players within minutes of her leaving a borderline penalty kick was given when Katia went down and Chastain converted. Just two minutes later Pearman running in with the ball was pushed down in the box but no penalty was given. A couple of plays later Pearman was again tackled but this time just outside the area, and a free kick was given and superbly taken by Lalor to even up the game.

At the half the Rays Coach Sawyers was evicted from the game for dissent.

The first part of the second half saw more control by the Power until Espeseth left the field again. The CyberRays pressure was finally converted when, ten minutes from the end, Murray’s perfectly placed header from a superbly chipped cross from Horvath put them into the final.
