Game

An evenly played first half with both teams having trouble settling down on the rain soaked artificial turf. The Charge had a couple of chances at scoring but could not finish. The Beat controlled 80% of the second half and were unlucky not to score when Sawa's shot bounced off the post and across the goal. But the Charge were amazingly dangerous in their 20% of the game and after Enos was substituted in they created havoc with the Beat's defense and only Scurry's world class keeping stopped them from scoring. What seemed to be finishing as a goal-less draw, in spite of Hooper's incredible work-rate and leadership, suddenly came alive as Burt sped past the defense only to be tackled down just outside the box after she had played the ball, by Keeper Moore who quite correctly received a red card and was ejected. Sawa hit a bending ball past the substitute Webber to give Atlanta the lead. Two minutes later Hooper received a second yellow card for tripping and the teams were even again for the resulting wild fracas the followed. Three minutes into extra time the score was even again when Liu scored in a goalmouth melee after Scurry had saved a shot and then was rammed head first into a goalpost by a player.
