NY Power's Sara Whalen and Jennifer Lalor to join the American Cancer Society's Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk in Central Park this Sunday

This weekend members of the New York Power will be scoring goals in the fight against breast cancer. On Sunday morning, October 14, 2001, Whalen and Lalor will be joined by thousands of friends and families in front of the Central Park Bandshell. The five-mile, non-competitive walk benefits the American Cancer Society's breast cancer research, patient services, education and advocacy programs. The walk raises awareness as well as providing information on how to detect breast cancer early as well as how to prevent it’s spread.

"The New York Power is privileged to support the American Cancer SocietyÌs breast cancer programs," said Ms. Whalen. "As a women’s athletic team, we realize that no one is exempt from breast cancer and are eager to do our part in the fight."

"By supporting the American Cancer Society we are using our power to spread the message that early detection saves lives," added Ms. Lalor."Hopefully we will all see the day when we kick cancer completely."

"The money we raise at Making Strides is helping other families facing breast cancer right now. Every year, more than 14,000 New York women are diagnosed with breast cancer and they need our help." said Karen Borkowsky, the event manager and a three-year breast cancer survivor herself.

Registration for the walk in Central Park begins at 9am, and the event kicks off at 9:30am. Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walks will also be held in Long Island, Queens, Staten Island, New Jersey and Rockland County.
