Holly Pierce waived by San Diego Spirit

The Spirit waived midfielder Holly Pierce cutting its roster to 18 players, which includes a vacancy for an unsigned international player.

After signing Kim Calkins yesterday it increased the roster to 19 and the Spirit was forced to waive one player. League rules mandate that each team must have a roster of 18 or fewer players heading into the 2002 WUSA Global Draft in February, which will include mostly college players.

Pierce, who played her college soccer at the University of Portland, spent most of last season on the Spirit's reserve squad, but moved to the active roster on June 27, 2001. She appeared in six matches, playing a total of 56 minutes.
