When England Head Coach Powell and WUSA Charge Assistant Coach Sundhage
were players in the same match
England will
play friendly International against Spain on Thursday 22nd March
2001 at Luton Town FC.
England have
never beaten Spain, but are replacing them in the UEFA Finals in
2001 compared with the 1997 Finals, with the 7 other teams the same.
This will
be a return to the venue that hosted the UEFA Final 2nd leg in 1984,
when England beat Sweden 1-0, but with a 1-1 aggregate, England
lost the penalty shoot-out,4-3.
The present
England Head Coach, Hope Powell, was a substitute for England, and
Pia Sundhage, now an assistant coach with Philadelphia Charge,
was one of the succesful Swedish penalty takers.
