Cindy Parlow is WUSA player of week 14

Cindy Parlow is WUSA Player of Week 14 for games played Monday,
July 16 through Sunday, July 22. Parlow lead the WUSA's first place
team to a 1-0-1 record for the week, totaling two goals and one
assist with 6 shots on goal in two games. The WUSA Founding Player
participated in all of the Atlanta scoring for the team's undefeated
week. Parlow now has five goals and five assists and a total of
25 shots on goal in 14 games played.
On Thursday, July 19, the Beat took on the Bay Area CyberRays in
a meeting of the two longest winning streaks in the WUSA. Parlow
assisted on Atlanta's only goal (Kelly Cagle) in the 53rd minute
to tie the second-place CyberRays
at 1-1and extend the Atlanta unbeaten streak to eight games.
The
Memphis Tennessee native is the youngest player ever to win an Olympic
gold medal (1996) and a Women's World Cup (1999). While at the University
of North Carolina, she became only the second player ever to win
the Herman
Trophy twice, a recognition only fellow Tar Heel Mia Hamm has also
received.
Parlow arrived at UNC's Chapel Hill with a 4.0 grade point average
at Germantown High School, which she completed in three years. She
has a street named after her in her hometown of Memphis, Cindy Parlow
Drive.
