Norwegian
midfielder Linda Ormen added to New York Power roster
Norwegian,
Linda Ormen, will fill the second of four slots available on the
roster for international players. Power can obtain two additional
international players for the upcoming 2002 season.
Ormen,
24 has played in the Norwegian Premier Division for the past nine
years, scoring 73 total goals, for three different teams, the last
being Kolbotn. In two years for Kolbotn, 2000-01, Ormen scored 25
goals, including 13 last season, which tied her for sixth in the
division in goal scoring.
Ormen
has appeared 31 times for her National side, and has scored 10 goals,
which ranks her tied for 18th on Norway’s all-time
goal scoring list. 2001 was a break out year for Ormen with eight
goals, including three multi-goal games, for the Norwegian National
Team. The eight goals were second best to Boston Breaker Dagny Mellgren,
who scored nine times.
She
started her career in the Premier Division back in 1993 for Sprint/Jeloy,
at the age of 16. Ormen played four seasons, 1993-96, with Sprint/Jeloy,
scoring 19 goals, before moving on to play three seasons (1997-99)
for Athene Moss, where she scored 29 goals.
During
her tenure in the Norwegian Premier Division, five of the nine teams
she has played for have finished in the top three, receiving medals.
She helped her 1993 Sprint/Jeloy to the Gold Medal, while her 2001
Kolbotn team claimed the Silver Medal. Ormen’s resume also
includes three Bronze Medals; 2000 Kolbotn, 1998 Athene Moss &
1994 Sprint/Jeloy.
Although
Ormen has signed a player contract with the WUSA, her signing is
contingent on the finalization of her official work visa. The process
is expected to be completed soon.
