San
Diego Spirit moves Holly Pierce to active roster
San Diego
Spirit have moved midfielder Holly Pierce from the reserve list
to the 20 player active roster. Midfielder Trudi Sharpsteen was
released to
Pierce, 25,
signed as a reserve player on April 9 and has trained with the team
throughout the season. The former University of Portland standout
was a member of the U.S. Under-21 National Team pool from 1993-'96
and played for the U-21's in two Nordic Cup tournaments in Germany
(1993) and in Sweden (1996). Pierce played for the W-League's Portland
Rain last summer.
In another
transaction, Tracy Sharp has been signed and activated as a replacement
goalkeeper. Sharp, who finished her college career at Loyola
Marymount University last fall, will backup Carly Smolak for Saturday's
match against the New York Power. The Spirit needed a second goalkeeper
for
the match as the Spirit's top two 'keepers are both on national
team duty. Ulrika Karlsson (Sweden) is at the European Championships
in Germany and Jaime Pagliarulo is with the U.S. Women's National
Team for the two-game Independence Day Series vs. Canada.
