WUSA
signs another eight international stars for league play
WUSA has signed
another eight international players who will compete in the WUSA
next April. It brings the WUSA's total of foreign players to 16.
Brazil, which earned a bronze medal in the 1999 World Cup, leads
the way with four of its players joining the League. The Brazilian
quartet is led by Sissi and includes Katia, Pretinha and Roseli.
They are joined by three of the top players from Germany's National
Team Doris Fitschen, Maren Meinert and Bettina Wiegmann. Rounding
out the eight is Homare Sawa of Japan.
"Homare is
technically brilliant on the ball. She can break open a game with
her passing ability," said Lauren Gregg, VP of Player Relations
for the WUSA. "What a great opportunity for our future generations
of players to see the assets of such wonderful technical ability.
Homare is a true soccer player in every sense of the word. "
WUSA's initial eight team markets (Atlanta, Boston, New York, Philadelphia,
Orlando, San Diego, San Francisco Bay Area & Washington D.C.) will
conduct its first-ever Foreign Player Allocation Draft on Monday
October, 30th.
