WUSA
to conduct its first-ever Combine and Draft from December 4 through
the 11th, 2000 in Boca Raton, Florida
WUSA will
be sending out Invitations to approximately 200 players.
Acting Commissioner
Tony DiCicco and Vice-President of Player Relations Lauren Gregg
selected the final pool of players who were invited after an exhaustive
nationwide search. Player registration and physicals will take place
the first two days of the Combine, which will be followed, by five
full days of games and workouts.
League personnel,
GM's and coaches from all eight teams will be on hand to
evaluate and scout. After five days of competition, the general
managers and coaches will commence the first WUSA Combine Draft
on December 10 and will conclude the draft the next day. There will
be between 12 and 15 rounds.
VP of Player
Relations Lauren Gregg
"We are truly
excited about the group of players we are inviting to the
Combine. The difficult decisions we are faced with are clear demonstrations
of the quality and the depth of the player pool. Without question
the time is right for a women's professional league."
