WUSA Inaugural Championship Game to be
held at Foxboro Stadium on August 25, 2001
The two participants in the Inaugural WUSA Championship Game will
be determined in WUSA Semi-Final games played on August 18th. The
top four teams in the WUSA League at the end of the season will
advance to the WUSA Semi-Final games with the top seed hosting the
fourth seed and the second seed hosting the third seed. Both the
Semi-Final games and the Inaugural WUSA Championship Game will be
televised live on TNT.
The winner of the Inaugural WUSA Championship Game will receive
the Founders Cup. The trophy, currently being designed by Tiffany's,
was named in honor of the WUSA's 20 Founding Players who helped
launch the league.
"We went through quite a few suggestions when we were trying to
name our championship trophy," said DiCicco. "When the Founders
Cup was mentioned it just seemed to fit. After all, without the
Founding Players I am not sure there would be a WUSA, let alone
an Inaugural WUSA Championship Game."
The logo was created by AmsterYard in conjunction with the WUSA
MarketingDepartment.
