Marlene Bjornsrud,
Assistant Director of Athletics at Santa Clara University, named
by WUSA as General Manager for the WUSA San Francisco Bay area team.
She will put
together the staff to run the WUSA San Francisco Bay area team,
overseeing all business affairs, including venue selection, marketing
and broadcasting negotiations.
Bjornsrud joined
the Santa Clara athletic department staff in January 1997 after
serving as an assistant athletic director at Grand Canyon College
in Phoenix, Arizona, and has monitored the soccer, baseball, softball,
crew, tennis and golf programs while overseeing the department's
marketing and media relations offices.
She commented
that "....with such outstanding players like Brandi Chastain, Tisha
Venturini and Lakeysia Beene already in place to anchor our foundation
here, the WUSA is well on its way to being a major success in the
San Francisco Bay area."
