Charmaine Hooper's 89th-minute goal propelled the Atlanta Beat (2-3-1, 7 pts.) past the San Jose CyberRays (2-3-1, 7 pts.) on Saturday afternoon.

The Beat got on the board first with a goal in the ninth minute by Cindy Parlow. The play began when Serlenga headed the ball to Homare Sawa at the top of the penalty area. Sawa turned to her right and blasted a shot net. San Jose goalkeeper LaKeysia Beene tipped the ball, which hit the crossbar and deflected back into play. Parlow was the first player to reach the ball as the Atlanta forward headed the ball into the back of the net for her first goal of the 2002 season.

Katia tied the match for the CyberRays in the 29th minute. On a free kick, Sissi sent the ball into the area from 35 yards out. Katia was able to get behind the Atlanta defense, heading the ball past Briana Scurry for her second goal of the season.

Atlanta had a chance to take a 2-1 lead in the 34th minute when defender Kelly Lindsey was called for a handball in the box. Kylie Bivens took the penalty kick for the Beat. However, Beene made a superb save as the San Jose 'keeper pounced on the low driving shot, keeping the match at 1-1.
