Higgins-Cirovski, one of the heroines of the 1991World Cup winning squad,
to be inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2002 Higgins-Cirovski, currently head coach of the University of Maryland Women's Soccer Team, was the leader of the young USA midfielders in the 1991 FIFA World Championship.She is just the third women player from the 1991 team elected to the Hall of Fame.That squad kick started the huge growth of women's soccer in the world that we enjoy today, and changed the face of the women's game for ever. She retired from
international play following the championship with 51 international caps.
She played on four NCAA Championship teams at the University of North
Carolina, scoring goals in 3 different finals. Her final season was capped
by award of the Hermann Trophy, emblematic of the top player in collegiate
women's soccer. Her maturity and skills ran the team from the middle with
a young line that often included Foudy, Lilly and Hamm.The ultimate athlete
she also was a softball.standout.
