Portugal National Team Tryouts in July

United Soccer Leagues (USL) will hold an open tryout for the Portugal National Team for Portuguese Americans and Portuguese Canadians in New Jersey July 8-10th.

The Ironbound Strikers of the Super Y-League will manage the overall tryout event at New Jersey Tech in Newark.

Portugal National Team head coach Jose Augusto will be evaluating American and Canadian players of Portuguese descent for the U-17, U-20 and World Cup National Teams.

The open tryouts are open to players of Portuguese heritage with the participants being analyzed and evaluated in training sessions and an exhibition match.

Portugal is following in the footsteps of countries such as Greece and Spain who have recruited mixed heritage players through WSW for several years to improve their competition level.
