England Head Coach Hope Powell awarded OBE (Order of the British Empire)

In the Queen of England and Commonwealth Birthday 2002 honours list, the England National Team Head Coach, Hope Powell was awarded an OBE (Order of the British Empire).

The former England International (66 appearances and 35 goals) started playing at 11 years old, and took over as England coach in June 1998.

The senior team reached the UEFA finals of 2001, and are in the play- offs for the WWC 2003 finals (two matches against Iceland).

The England U-19 team have recently qualified for the first ever WWCup for this age group, after reaching the semi-finals of the 2002 UEFA finals.

Hope Powell follows in the footsteps of several other women who have been similarly honoured.

All of them played for England, and had long and successful club and coaching careers.
