U.S. National Team begin four-month Residency Training Camp on April 5, 2004

They will train for the 2004 Olympics until the end of July at the Home Depot Center in Carson, California. Six domestic international games are planned during that time.

Twenty seven players have been chosen for the full-time Residency Camp, and they will be competing for a place on the eighteen player Olympic Team. Heinrichs may call in other players to train over the four-month period.

U.S. National Team Head Coach April Heinrichs is quoted as saying that the residency training period will allow them to address a myriad of technical and tactical areas of their game, monitor individual and team fitness, provide immediate feedback to players and pay special attention to the small details in the game. She feels that the residency camp was a major factor in their success in '95, '96 and '99 and that without U.S. Soccer's support of the camp it would not be possible for them to continue to be competitive on the world scene, especially without WUSA, and that it will allow her to develop a larger pool of players for the short and long term future of our program.
