February 21, 2003 USA to play England in Birmingham, Alabama The U.S. National Team will play England at Legion Field, Alabama on Saturday, May 17th. It will be the first time since the 1996 Olympics that womenıs national teams have played in Alabama. It will be televised live on ESPN, and is the second game to be confirmed of the six home games the USA will play between now and the 2003 Women's World Cup. It will give a chance for the fans to see the first U.S. National Team player to come from Alabama, Cat Reddick, play for her country in her home state for the first time. She grew up in Birmingham and went to high school at Briarwood Christian School. "The fans in Alabama were awesome when our men played there and the city really embraced the Olympics," said Reddick, a UNC junior, who has played 26 times for the full national team. "The fans are starting to learn about the other kind of football and soccer is really growing in Alabama. It is a patriotic community and I know the fans will be so excited to see the U.S. women in their town." World famous Mia Hamm will be there as well. A military brat she was born in Selma, Alabama, where her father was an Air Force pilot instructor at the now defunct Craig Air Force Base.
