August 19, 2003 U.S. National Team Head Coach Heinrichs sets schedule for World Cup 2003 training camp Head Coach April Heinrichs has chosen 23 players for training at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in San Diego, California beginning August 21st. She has included two players, Shannon MacMillan and Heather O'Reilly, who are recovering from major injuries. MacMillan had ACL surgery on May 21st. and began limited playing last week. O'Reilly who suffered a broken fibula and stretched ligament in her ankle on June 14th. started light running and ball work last week.
Six players will be with their WUSA teams who are competing in the Founders Cup Championship game on August 24th. at Torero Stadium in San Diego. The players will train from August 21-24 in San Diego, have four days off and regroup in Los Angeles for training at the U.S. Soccer National Training Center in Carson, California from August 29-September 3rd. From September 4-7 they will be based in San Jose, California. Their schedule there includes two matches, Costa Rica on September 1st. at the Home Depot Center (8 p.m. PT on ESPN2), and the second on September 7th. against Mexico at Spartan Stadium (10 a.m. PT on ESPN).
