Hamm recovering from shoulder surgery

Dr. Stephen Burkhart performed a right shoulder arthroscopy on December 29, 2000, in San Antonio, Texas to remove bursatic tissue and tighten up the shoulder structure, in orderto correct an injury that had been bothering her since before the 2000 Olympics. Hamm hurt the shoulder before the Olympics and the joint had partially recovered when she re-injured it against Canada on November 11, 2000. She fell on it against Japan on December 17th and the orthopaedic surgeon decided that surgery was necessary. Hamm will be in a sling for two weeks before beginning a rehabilitation program. She is expected to be fully healed in time for the inaugural WUSA season.
