Germany was able to contain the U.S. squad in the first half, but were unable to stay at their level in the second period.

Post match comments by German Team Coach

Coach Helmut Horsch, who was speaking for Germany's Head Coach Tina Theune-Meyer, said after the match that today the Americans were better in every position. "They were superior on the ball and in set plays. Today the U.S. team was at a higher level than all the other teams in our group. It is a shame that we did not finish our chances against Finland so that we would be playing for third place, because now we will be playing for fifth place."
