Game report

The Russian defense had little answer for the U.S. attcks on goal, and their struggle was obvious when Rostedt was knocked down by Semenchenko in the penalty box within the first minutes of the match. Russia had quite good ball control but were often unable to penetrate the strong U.S. defense, although in the first half managed take several shots on goal in the first half.  Strong goalkeeping by the Russian keeper kept the score down, as the USA controlled thesecond half after allowing a surprise goal in the opening minutes of the second period.

The win means that the U.S. a quarterfinal berth at the least, and a win or tie against Spain in their next match will give them first place in the Group and a game in the quarterfinals against the third-place team from Group A or B.
