Game

As expected the U.S. were in command the entire game , and Greece  played a completely defensive game  by packing the goal mouth and crowding the U.S. forwards, with the help of a brilliant game by their goalkeeper whose excellent saves kept them in the game. It worked well and by not allowing any time or space for the U.S. players they were unable to finish most of their huge numbers of shots,. The USA stayed calm even though frustrated  and moved the ball around the field  while trying to open up some scoring pathways.

Because the teams in this group have to play one more game than the teams in the other groups, giving them extra rest, it was a good game for the USA, and it was an excellent result for the host team Greece  in their first exposure to this level of soccer,  and to the viewing Greek population.
