W-League Piranhas sign Missy Gregg

Missy Gregg, the two time NCAA Division II Player of the Year, has signed to play for the Hampton Roads Piranhas in the 2003 season. The Gregg, the Christian Brothers scoring machine, is the first player to earn back-to-back National Player of the Year honors.

Before the WUSA draft Gregg decided to pull out and had mailed paperwork to the WUSA league offices to withdraw her name from the draft., rehab her knee and play the 2003 season at Hampton Roads. She was the first pick of the Washington Freedom, (3rd round, 18th overall) during the WUSA February draft, and League officials said they never received it. Gregg shattered all NCAA scoring records in 2 years at Christian Brothers University, but received her second knee injury during the 2002 national Division II playoffs. She played in the championship game, and scored one goal and set up the game winner to bring CBU a National Championship. Washington Freedom head coach Jim Gabarra said he will follow Missyıs progress during her season with the Piranhas, and will retain her rights for 2004. She has been training with the Washington Freedom during their pre season camp, and will report to the Piranhas in early April.
