September 29, 2001 W-League Indiana Blaze may be forced to suspend operations MorSports, Inc. announced today that without a title sponsor, they would be forced to suspend operations of their USL (United Soccer Leagues) W-League franchise in 2002.
"This is one of the most difficult decisions we have ever had to make," said owner and president Kim Morris. Morris, who took over ownership of the Blaze in September of 1997, also owns the Indiana Blast men's A-League professional team.
MorSports has until October 1 to reach a decision regarding the team's fate in 2002, but without additional financial backing "we'll just have to put it on hold for a season." Morris is a strong advocate of women in sports and has witnessed first-hand the positive impact that the Blaze has had in the community. "They will be missed, but they will be back."
