In a disappointing defensive game for a national audience, the Whitecaps were able to close down Pichon and won the game on penalty kicks. Those who had watched Pichon dominate game after game for New Jersey and admired the attacking style of Vancouver, had expectations that this match would be a TV showpiece for the W-League . The pressure of the occasion ruled.
