June 3, 2001 Third time's a charm in overtime for Melissa
McBean as W-1 Springfield goes 5-0 on the season While overtime games are not good habits to keep up, overtime game winning goals can be considered rather nice, indeed. You could say that with the bad comes the good - in this case, the "very, very good." Speaking of bad habits gone good, Melissa McBean (New Britain, CT) registered her third straight game winning overtime goal for the Springfield Sirens, stunning the host Laval Dynamites by a 1-0 score at Sherbrooke Stadium on Saturday afternoon, June 2nd. In the 94th minute, the former Dartmouth College All-American received the ball at the top, right-hand side of the penalty area from fellow midfielder Martha Conover (Liverpool, NY). Taking advantage of some loose marking on behalf of the Laval defense, McBean quickly dribbled to the right and then back to the left. With a good look at goal, Melissa rifled her shot inside the far post to wrap-up the 1-0 win over the Dynamites (1-2 record). The 2000 W-2 League
National Champions are undefeated with a 5-0 record in the Northern Conference
of the W-1 League.
