Seventh season starts Friday for W-League

The 2000 champions in each league have switched positions, with the Chicago Cobras stepping down to W-2 and the Springfield Sirens earning promotion to W-1.

Both W-1and W-2 leagues kick off this weekend with the W-1 Texas Odyssey and Jacksonville Jade playing on Friday, and the W-2 New Jersey Wildcats and South Jersey Banshees meeting on Saturday.

This season sees a record number of teams participating with18 in W-1 and 19 in W-2.

As expected several W-League teams were affected by the arrival of WUSA. To compensate for their player losses many have been busy in the off season recruiting and some have decided to move up to W-1 or down to W-2.
