December 16, 2003 Head Coach change for Hampton Roads Piranhas Jeff Bowers is the new head coach of the Hampton Roads Piranhas, replacing John Germanos their coach for he last 3 seasons with a 14-0-0 record last season including winning the W-League National Championship.
Bowers is the head coach of the women's team at Virginia Wesleyan College.. He took the squad to the Elite Eight in the country this season and his 20 wins this season set a record for most wins in school history. He holds a NSCAA Premier License, and a USSF B License. Comments by Piranhas General Manager Marcie Laumann It was a decision that I felt I had to make to keep our team progressive. The 2004 season will be extremely competitive due to the W-Leagues expansion. I felt the team needed a coach who could focus mainly on the Piranhas during the season. John has numerous other responsibilities that consume a great deal of his time, including a job at the Department of Defense, a Director of Coaching position with the Virginia Rush, and his involvement with ODP. No one is more committed or brings more passion and enthusiasm to the game than John. I have nothing but praise for John as a coach and as an individual. It is just time to move on. The Piranhas have reached post-season play 6 of their 9 seasons, and have appeared in the National Championship final four tournament 4 times.
