Xavier University loses in overtime away at La Salle

La Salle 3 Xavier 2 (OT)

Sunday, October 20, 2002
Cincinnati, Ohio

Scoring

Xavier Lauren Giesting (Nicole Giesting) 40
Xavier Tracy Veith ( Lauren Giesting) 81
La Salle Patricia Gauss, 87
La Salle Amy Schneider, 89
La Salle Krista Lee, 95

The Xavier Musketeers led 2-0 with just three minutes left in the match when things went a little crazy. First La Salle cut the lead, and then a La Salle player ran into XU goalkeeper Megan Veith inside the box with just 59 seconds left in regulation and Veith pushed her away. The referee ruled that Veith deserved a yellow card and awarded La Salle what proved to be a game-tying penalty kick. They scored the golden goal in less than five minutes of overtime.
It was the second consecutive loss in overtime for Xavier, who are now 6-9 overall, and 2-5 in the Atlantic 10 Conference.
In their final home weekend of the season they play St. Bonaventure on Friday at 7:00 p.m., and Duquesne on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
