Washington State University received letters of intent from four Northwest standouts and added two transfers this spring. Transfers Nicole Wilcox (Battle Ground, Wash.) and Shelby Brownfield (Snohomish, Wash.) are already enrolled and will participate in all aspects of spring practice. Nicole WilcoxCame via Iowa State University, where she led the Cyclones in scoring each of the last two seasons. The Battle Ground native attempted 10 shots in her first collegiate match setting a school record. Wilcox earned All-Big 12 honors following both seasons in Ames and will have two seasons of eligibility with the Cougars. Shelby Brownfield A transfer from the University of Connecticut also has two years left. After a successful prep career at Snohomish High School, Brownfield headed east, knocking in three goals, including two against Rutgers, in her rookie campaign with the Huskies. Four Northwest standouts signed national letters of intentCarmen AndersonFrom Kennewick, Washington she attended Kennewick High School leading the Lions to their first Big Nine Conference title in 2001. She scored 17 goals this season and was a three-time All-Big Nine selection, including most valuable player honors as a senior. Anderson also participated in the Washington State Olympic Development Program for three years, participating in tournaments up and down the West Coast. Jennie KuncFrom Maple Valley, Washington she is the lone defender in the group who played on four consecutive league championship teams at Tahoma High School and won the state 4A title with a 21-0-1 record in 2001. Kunc played for the F.C. Marauders from 1997 to 2000, and with the F.C. Alliance in 2000. She also competed on the 2000 USYSA Regional IV Olympic development team.
From Yakima, Washington she attended West Valley High in Yakima, and is also coming off a state championship run in the 3A ranks in 2001. She led the Rams to a 24-0-0 record and was a three-time All-Mid Valley selection. Miller also started at forward for the 2001 U-17 Regional Pool team. Alix RustrumFrom Wilsonville, Oregon she could make an immediate impact player with her height at 5ft. 9ins. She is a former high school teammate of current Cougar Mariette Boyce at Wilsonville and racked up 73 career goals, including 23 in each of the last two seasons. Rustrum also distributed 46 assists and was a three-time all-state selection. With 19 letterwinners returning, including eight starters, the Cougars are eyeing another trip to the NCAA Tournament in 2002.
