Golden Goal by Nicole Martinez gives Washington a win over Duke

Washington 4 Duke 3

Carolina Classic
Fetzer Field, Chapel Hill, North Carolina
Attendance - 785

Martinez' sudden-death goal ended a game in which Washington came back from a two goal deficit with three unanswered goals. Duke equalized to put it into overtime.

"This is one of the best wins I've ever had at Washington," said ninth-year Coach Lesle Gallimore. "To come from two goals down to a good Duke team on the road is a great result. We played with more heart and toughness than we have in a long time. We already did what we came her to do. We wanted to beat Duke and have a 3-0 record when we play Carolina," Gallimore remarked. "They are deep, they're talented and they are the best team in the country. What a great experience for our team to see how we stack up. It's a fun challenge."

The Washington Huskies advance to Sunday's championship game of the Carolina Classic where they will meet top-ranked North Carolina (1-0-1) on its home field.
