University
of Illinois forfeits game to University of Dayton
Illinois are forfeiting
their 2-1 victory on September 27th. over Dayton because they had a player
participate illegally in the match.
Illini forward Tara Schuling, who collected an assist in the UD win, had
only served one match of her mandatory two-match suspension for receiving
her second red card of the season.
Schuling received her second red card in 2002 in the match against Michigan
State on September 20 th. NCAA rules mandate that a player must sit out
the team's next two matches after the second red card. Schuling sat out
Illinois' match against Michigan on September 22, but failed to sit out
versus Dayton.
NCAA Soccer Rule 12-18a states that when a suspended player or coach participates
in a match, that match will be forfeited to the opposing team.
All statistics from the match will still count towards both teams, and
Schuling will still receive credit for her assist. But the University
of Dayton's record will now go to 13-2-0.
