The Cavaliers went 2-0 to win the Virginia (4-1-1) took little time getting on the board, as Kelly Hammond (Bowie, Md.) scored on the team's first shot of the game in the second minute. Hammond one-timed a cross from tournament MVP Noelle Keselica (Gaithersburg, Md.) to give the Cavaliers the lead. Virginia would maintain that advantage into the half. In the second half, the Cavaliers would make the score 2-0 on their first shot of the second half in the 51st minute. Katie Bunch (St. Louis, Mo.) sprung a breaking Sarah Huffman (Flower Mound, Texas) on the right side. Huffman delivered a cross into the box that was defelected by Lindsay Gusick (Livonia, Mich.) just inside the far post. Gusick would tally the final goal of the game in the 83rd minute as Shannon Foley (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) dribbled along the end line and found Gusick unmarked 10 yards out for the one-timer. Overall, Virginia outshot USC 10-6. Anne Abernethy (Atlanta, Ga.) made three saves in net for UVa while posting her 13th career shutout. Julie Peterson made four saves at the other end for the Women of Troy.
