November 8, 2002 University of Denver's Antongiovanni, Portincaso, and Erica Izard named to the Verizon Academic All-District VII Women's Soccer Team The district team is made up of student-athletes from Division I schools in Colorado, Missouri, and Nebraska. Denver joined Nebraska as the only schools to receive three awards. Senior Katie Antongiovanni (Bakersfield, California), earned the honors for her 3.56 gpa in Statistics. The senior midfielder led the Pioneers in scoring for the second straight year with a team-high 25 points, which included a team-best 11 goals. Senior Erica Izard (Fort Collins, Colorado) , who has a 3.80 gpa in Environmental Science, earned her second consecutive Sun Belt Conference goalkeeping title this season. She allowed just two goals in eight conference matches, posted a league best GAA of 0.27 and was named conference player of the week on Nov. 5th. She recorded six shutouts against conference opponents during the regular season and accumulated a personal scoreless streak of 563 minutes. Senior Angie Portincaso (Littleton, Colo.) was rewarded for her 3.97 gpa in Biology. She has anchored Denver's defense this season, which shutdown opponent's offensive attack and recorded 11 shutouts, and balanced the Pioneer attack with six points on the season (two goals, two assists). Her presence on the back line has been intimidating, holding opponents to less than seven shots per contest.
