Lauren Schmidt scored off a corner kick at 76:35 from Sarah Capel and the Wisconsin Badgers defeated the USC Trojans, 1-0, in the 2002 season opener for both teams in Friday action at the Nebraska adidas Invite. Schmidt scored on just the fifth shot of the game by the Badgers.

USC (0-1) controlled most of the game, outshooting Wisconsin (1-0) by a 20 6 margin and 10-1 advantage on corner kicks. They had several chances to score.

USC will play No. 1 North Carolina on Sunday (Sept. 1) at 11 a.m. at Abbott Sports Complex in nonconference action.
