June 6, 2003 Another roadblock thrown up in Fortuna's path to Denmark Elite Division Championship Brøndby IF who are neck and neck with Fortuna in a bid to win the Elite Division championship this season have put the finish in doubt again by protesting their defeat by FV Kobenhavn on Wednesday. They are protesting Tina Andersen's presence in the game, and saying that because she had played in France earlier this season the leagues rules state that she cannot play for a new club in the seasons last three games. If their protest is accepted it would mean that only if they lost one of their last two games could Fortuna win the championship by winning their last remaining league game against Skovbakken. FV Cobenhaven says that Tina Andersen was in France to play football, but never received her players certificate and did not play any games in France. Therefore she has been eligible to play for them. The UEFA draw for the next years competition made public recently makes the championship even more valuable for the winner, because they would host Group 1 in next years UEFA Cup. If Fortuna should win this years Cup, they would be playing in Group 5 in the Ukraine. A group that includes the Danish Champions, FC Kilmarnock from Scotland, KR Reykjavik from Iceland, together with the champion club from Serbien/Montenegro. The winner will proceed to the quarter finals. The Cup Final leg in Denmark has been somewhat overlooked by the public there because of the upcoming Denmark v Norway game, while Sweden is experiencing great interest in the game by the fans and already 4,600 tickets have been sold and around 70 media persons accreditated from Sweden, Denmark, Germany and England. for the final game there. UEFA President Lennart Johansson will be attending the game, and both final games will be shown on Swedish television. | |
