October 3, 2002 England U-19 Team starts 2002-2003 UEFA 1st round with win over Lithuania by Colin A Aldis Using the Bulgarian coastal resort of Varna, and the Albena Cup venue, England had a comfortable start to the 2002-03 U-19 campaign, beating Lithuania 4-0. It was the ever match between the two countries, and Fara Williams who was in the U-19 World Championship Finals team in Canada, scored in the 4th and 25th minute. The other goals came from Katy Ward (39 min) and Jodie McGukin (77th minute), both players who are in the Birmingham City team which gained promotion to the FA Premier League National Division this season. Due to their age limit, all 4 defenders and the keeper from the last match against Canada in Edmonton, will not be eligible for this season. The seven group winners and best runner-up will advance to the 2nd round, to join eight seeded teams, in four groups of four teams in April 2003. Seven teams then advance to the finals tournament, to join hosts and champions Germany.
