England qualified for the World Finals by reaching the European Championship semi-finals in Sweden this year, where they lost 1-0 to eventual tournament winners Germany. The majority of the squad that competed in Sweden remain in the squad for Canada.

England kick-off their World Championships campaign against tournament favourites USA in the opening game on August 17th at the Centennial Stadium in Victoria.

Head Coach Powell commented: "There are some talented players in this squad and this will be a great opportunity for them to judge themselves against the best players in the World. The players have been working on individual training programmes since the European Finals and have shown that they are serious about their participation in this tournament. It is rare that an experience like this is available and I am sure that the players will make the most of it. I know that both the players and the staff will be looking forward to this opportunity. It is a great honour to be opening the tournament against the USA and it’s great for Women’s Football in England that we will be there to compete on this stage."
