Late in the game England went ahead when Moore crossed the ball and it went in off a defender. Kelly Smith added

another by converting a penalty kick given when she was fouled. Some fine saves by Pauline Cope helped preserve the win.

The game was played in freezing weather and Portsmouth FA tried to cancel the  match to save the pitch for their FA Cup replay against Liverpool on Sunday.  The England FA insisted that it be played.
