Germany and Frankfurt are UEFA Champions

By Colin Aldis

They are calling it a triple crown for Germany! They hold the European titles at the Senior, Under 19, and under 17levels..

FFC Frankfurt have also just won the UEFA Cup, so there is no doubt where the power base lies.

On Friday May, 23rd.at Nyon the Under-17 team were just too strong for France, winning 3-0, with goals by Dzenifer Marozsan, Alexandra Popp and Ivana Rutelic..

Earlier that day Denmark had scored 3 late goals to beat England 4-1, in a 3v4 play-off, which is unusual in UEFA competitions. All 4 teams will play in the FIFA world finals in New Zealand in October.

A day later at the Commerzbank Arenal in Frankfurt, a record 27640 spectators saw FFC Frankfurt lift the UEFA Cup for the third time.. Conny Pohlers scored early
in both halves to give the German team a 3-1 aggregate lead, but a penalty by Lisa Dahlqvist gave Umea a chance to stay in the game...But Petra Wimbersky hit a superb free kick to increase the lead,,althougth there were was a few nervous fminutes at the end, after Frida Ostberg scored.
scored a rare goal.

Umea IK have now appeared in five of the seven finals so far, and have lost three times.
