Game report

A close game and in the second half Greece had more possession but were unable to finish. Australia played their usual physical game but were equaled in their foul total by host Greece who appear to have little chance of advancing since they play Brazil next.

Post match quotes

Greece

Team Captain Michailidou

We did not get the result we wanted. We tried with all our strength but were unlucky with that early goal, and although we raised our performance and possession in the second half we had hoped to finish with a better result.

I believe that the future of women's soccer in Greece belongs to us, and there is a space for women's football in Greece. We apologize to the fans for today's result.

Australia

De Vanna

We performed pretty well from the beginning, and feel that it was a fair victory. The Greeks played a physical game and showed that they never give up. Now we have focus on our next game, against the USA.
