Anissa Tann
can reach her 100th International appearance at 2002 Nike Cup
Defender Anissa
Tann could reach her 100th International appearance at Nike Cup and becoming
the first Australian soccer player, male or female, to do so. She has
been named Captain of the Australian National Team for their tour to Canada
and the USA.
The 34 year old Tann has 97 full international appearances, and could
reach the century mark in the game against the USA on October 2nd.
Tann was first selected for Australia in 1986, but off-field problems
resulted in all the NSW players withdrawing from the team, and they were
ruled ineligible for the following year. She made her international debut
in 1988 against Brazil, in the first FIFA tournament held in China.
She was captain of the Australian National team from 1991 to 1994.
After the 1995 World
Cup she dropped from the team, and was out for two years before she made
her comeback in the 1997 US Cup.
She played in two
FIFA World Cups, 1995 and 1999, and the 2000 Olympic Games.
"I do not look at it as being my hundred caps,"Tann said today"I
will keep playing while I am enjoying it, while I am fit enough and motivated
enough. What is more important is that I want the team to play as well
as I believe we can. On this tour I would like to see players stand up
and say Australia can play and hopefully as captain
I can now push that a bit more."
