March 21, 2003 Texas prove their class against the SWANZ University of Texas 6 New Zealand 2 New Zealand National Team came up against a USA top 10 ranked team in Texas University in Austin today. Head Coach Sandy Davie fielded seven changes in personnel and position from the opening tour win. The new formation found themselves 3-0 in twenty minutes after three defensive lapses’ lapses that proved critical against an in-form Texas side. New Zealand settled in to the match from that point and came back to 4-2 down midway through the second half with great goals to Michele Keinzley and Liz O¹Meara. Davie was impressed with both strikes: ³Michele scored a Michael Owen type goal, outstripping the defence to gather a Melissa Ray through ball and slot home on the angle. Liz scored a stunner too, striking home with her right foot from 25 metres into the top left corner, giving the keeper no chance.² Texas confirmed their dominance however with two late goals in perfect conditions in the 25,000 seat stadium, dedicated to the women¹s programme only at Texas University. New Zealand: R Howard, J Simpson (R Doody 34), P Duncan, T McCahill, W Henderson (M Keinzley 45), N Smith (L O’ÄôMeara 45), H Moorwood (M Jackman 26), S Ferrara (K Jarden 66), R Smith, M Edwards (M Ray 30), Z Cogle (H Moorwood 75) New Zealand next play Texas A & M on Monday, NZT. |
