Game Pressure from the Australian attack caused problems for a shaky Italian defence. Cannuli's run and shot amidst a scramble in the 6-yard box resulted in the goal.
Italy created their best opportunity of the match in the 28th minute with goalkeeper Logue out off her line but Italy's attempt on a wide-open goal was cleared off the goal-line by defender Beaumont. Two minutes later Italy had another chance before the Matildas regrouped.
Cannuli and Khamis combined well for Australia to double their lead a minute before the break. The second half was a fairly tight affair, both sides moving forward early on but without creating any real threat on goal. The two coaches gave most of their substitutes a run.
Cooper was shown the yellow card after bringing down Italy's Penelope Riboldi, but the subsequent freekick sailed over the crossbar.
Post match quote Australia U-19 National Team Coach Adrian Santrac
This week and a half of preparation has been very good. We are progressing, performances are improving, the understanding amongst players is clearer and their confidence is building. Tonight's result was very pleasing. Now we look forward to moving and settling into Bangkok for our final preparations.
