August 22, 2003 FIFA providing its major sponsors an opportunity to meet the public with a traveling Road Show starting August 24, 2003 FIFA is giving its sponsors the opportunity to show their wares with a World Cup USA 2003 Road Show traveling around the United States in the month approaching the start of the World Cup. It is designed to publicize and raise the public's interest for the event. Basically it is a commercially designed program to give the major sponsors a chance to connect with the public. It will visit all six host venues as well as major markets and corporate sponsor headquarters, making 20 stops in 29 days, along a more than 4600-mile route. The public will be given the opportunity to win tickets and official merchandise, qualify to compete for a $1 million kick sweepstakes, and have their photo taken with the FIFA Women's World Cup trophy. FIFA commissioned a new trophy for the third FIFA Womenís World Cup in 1999. Weighing 2 kg (4.5 pounds) and standing 37 cm (14.95 inches) tall, the trophy was designed by William Sawaya of Milan-based Sawaya & Moroni. All metallic pieces are gold-plated with the base made of polished marble. The medallion on the base is polished brass, as is the supporting structure that holds the ball, and the ball itself.
