August 27, 2001Decisive weekend in Brazil’s National championshipRaphael José Maciel de Pádua Friday 24 August 2001 (RIO) The first round matches are complete and twelve teams have gone through to the next round. Up until now, the most solid performances have been from Internacional-RS, Gremio, Cruzeiro and Sport Recife, who have automatically qualified for the third round with their match records to date. The remaining places will be decided among the last eight, including the CBF's Futebol Esperanca, made up of players that took part in the last four Poorer Communities championships, which edged into the play offs at the last minute. Check out the second round matches: Saturday - 25 August CFZ (RJ) vs. Goiania (GO) at 0900. Futebol Esperanca (RJ) vs. Maringa Seleto (PR) at 1430. Sunday - 26 AugustMatonense (SP) vs. Madureira (RJ) at 0900. Fluminense (RJ) vs. Santa Isabel (MG) at 1430. The third round will begin on Tuesday 28 August, with the winners of the four weekend matches meeting Gremio, Sport, Cruzeiro and Inter, who have the competition's top scorer Duda on their side.
