First-half scoring spree gives Trinidad & Tobago victory against Suriname in Gold Cup qualifier August 13, 2002 Three goals within a ten-minute span in the first half gave Trinidad & Tobago a 3:1 victory over Suriname in the first leg of their series Tuesday in Paramaribo, moving them closer to becoming the first Caribbean Zone team to qualify for the 2002 FC Women’s Gold Cup. Maylee Attin-Johnson opened the scored for T&T in the 14th minute, beating the Suriname defence and putting her shot past ‘keeper Daniell Haurens. Two minutes later, Alania Burgin doubled the advantage for Trinidad & Tobago, again capitalizing on a defensive lapse to find an opening in the Suriname penalty area and beating Haurens.Johnson once again found herself open in front of the goal in the 24th minute and wasted no time in blasting a ball into the back of the net for a 3:0 lead. The Trinidad squad had the better of the play the remainder of the half and carried their advantage through to the interval.
