Canada National U-19 Team celebrates Canada Day (135th) with a win over Mexico
On Canada day July 1, 2002 the Under –19 National Team defeated Mexico Under-19 Team 4-1 at Jeux de Canada Games Stadium on the campus of the University of New Brunswick. Sasha Andrews opened the scoring at the tenth minute with a header off a cross from Caroline Vaillancourt past Mexico 'keeper Anjuli Ladrón de Guevara. Just before the end of the half Clare Rustad added another with an indirect kick. Candace Chapman scored in the 63rd and 76th minutes to ensure the win. Micheli Rico scored a consolation goal for Mexico 11 minutes from the end of a one sided match.
The two sides will now travel to Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island and Wolfville, Nova Scotia for the second and third games of the series, part of the Canada Road to the U-19 World Championship.
